PROBLEMS SOLVING AND SOURCES OF CREATIVE IDEAS

entrepreneurship

Définition

Creativity
Creativity is a process of developing novel and useful ideas, either incremental improvements or world changing radical breakthroughs. Creative outcomes are a consequence of making original and unique mental connections.

THE SOURCES OF CREATIVE IDEAS :

‘Innovation is the specific instrument of entrepreneurship... the act that endows resources with a new capacity to create wealth’ (Drucker, 2007).

FORMS OF CREATIVITY BY J. ANDERSON (1992) :

  • Creation is the activity of making something out of nothing (creativity that makes things)
  • Modification is the act of altering something that already exists so that it can (creativity that changes things)

Perform its function better

Perform a new function

Perform in a different setting

Be used by someone new

  • Synthesis is the act of relating two or more previously unrelated phenomena (creativity that combines things)

Most creativity today is either modification or synthesis, there is very little creation

PROBLEM SOLVING AND CREATIVITY :

Complex problems typically require creative innovative solutions :

  • problem solving : find a solution to know problem
  • problem finding and framing : to discover what the problem is
  • prediction and anticipation : at predicting or anticipating a new concept of future eventually

THE CREATIVE PROCESS BY HESSELBEIN AND JOHNSTON (2002) :

  • preparation
  • innovation opportunity
  • divergence
  • incubation
  • convergence

SCAMPER :

SCAMPER is based on the notion that everything new is a modification of something that already exists.

S = substitute

C = combine

A = adapt

M = magnify

P = put to other uses

E = eliminate (or minify)

R = Rearrange (or reverse)

PNI POSITIVE/NEGATIVE AND INTERESTING :

is a simple way of approaching problems by analysing point on the basis of whether something is "positive/plus" ; "negative/minus" ; " interesting"

  • consider the plus points
  • consider the minus
  • consider the interesting
  • make your decision

EVALUATION MATRIX :

  • can evaluate a multiple of options according to a relevant criteria you select yourself
  • goal : compare differents ideas and get an overview of idea's weaknesses and strenghts
  • the weak ideas can be broken down and made stronger and more complete
